What is Sedentary Lifestyle?
This type of lifestyle usually refers to engaging in little to no physical activity. Picture a girl lying on the bed the whole day watching Netflix from her phone or a guy spending his Saturday playing video games on the PC. Similarly, this also applies to any office worker who sit from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm doing their respective jobs. You can consider if you have a sedentary lifestyle if you are not doing anything physical for four hours straight.
According to recent studies, a lot of health conditions are results of a sedentary lifestyle. The most prevalent are probably obesity and diabetes. Not engaging in any form of physical activity can lead to plenty of cardiovascular diseases. Smoking leads to heart diseases as well but sitting the whole day is possibly worse. These are just few of the types of sickness you can get from not getting enough exercise.
For this reason, you should consider doing some changes in your lifestyle. Take time to look at your daily activities and see how you can insert some physical activity. It’s tempting to just lay down the bed doing nothing after a long day at work. Instead of doing that, keep your motivation up and get some household chores done. Do this once you arrive home or after dinner instead of going directly for your bed or couch. Getting some of the much needed tasks done will help you free more time on other enjoyable activities during the weekend. Making some lifestyle changes does not mean you have to eliminate the activities you enjoyed from your routine entirely. You can still watch shows or play video games, especially during the weekends. Another suggestion is to do something while you are watching your favorite show. Washing the dishes and folding the laundry are few of the many activities that require your full attention. You can multitask and watch a show from your phone while engaged in these chores. As mentioned earlier, there are plenty of technological advancements that made our life easier today. One of which is the smart phone and you can install different types of apps on it that suit a certain function. Some of these are like a personal trainers that you can access with just a click of a button. There are numerous fitness apps out there that can help you deal with your sedentary lifestyle.
One example is the pedometer. It tracks how many steps you took and gives you information on how much physical activity you got done today. There are also other interesting apps that rate your sleep or track your heart rate. Some can help you track your daily calories or provide you with a realistic goal.
These and more will help you develop favorable habits and give you the sense of accomplishment you need to keep going. If the daily record of physical activity is not enough, then you are encouraged to find ways to move more during the day. This is especially useful during days when you are unable to tell if the physical activity you did for the day was enough or not.
There are other fitness trackers that do more than track your steps. These are usually not for free but most of them are worth getting. That is not to say that free apps aren’t good. Most of the apps that are for free help you out a great deal already. Not only that but some are already included and installed on your smartphone.
